End of the Road - Week 13

Really enjoyed the "Rula 2.0 experience" and being a complete novice, I certainly learned a great deal from the different weekly exercises. In the future, I hope to use many of the features that were introduced.

YouTube

There are some pretty interesting and amusing videos out there on YouTube. The video I chose this week on YouTube was on the "Guerilla Gardening movement" which is occurring worldwide. Although I am well aware of this "movement" happening in Toronto, I was not aware to what extent it was being done elsewhere. I did send it to a few people and made a comment, as well. I can't believe what's out there. Included are links to a few other videos on the same topic.

Podcasts

I used iTunes for the first time and downloaded the episodes of IN THE GARDEN with Steve Whysall. Interestingly, I found a "Meditation Room" podcast at http://www.lime.com/meditation_room as well as a list of organic gardeners podcasts on I also subscribed to RSS and listened to Jane Austen's Emma and Pride and Prejudice. Not the whole thing of course!

StumbleUpon

Hi:
I "stumbled upon" these lovely snowdrops. Spring is definitely here in full swing. Even my crocuses are blooming!

Loved using StumbleUpon. Didn't even know this existed and will definitely be using this in the future. Every week I keep learning something new with RULA. and it never ceases to amaze me what's out there. Definitely am enjoying this!

Facebook

Well, I have created my "faceless" Facebook account just to see how it works. After searching around, as well as looking at a colleague's Facebook account, I decided that it is not something I would use. I simply don't have any interest in it nor do I have the time. I prefer keeping in touch the "old fashioned way".

Google Applications

Google applications was interesting. Best application is Google Maps. I use it all the time when I go to a ski resort.

Technology Petting Zoo

The "Technology Petting Zoo" was a great idea! Certainly saw a few gadgets that I was not familiar with. The Wii looked like fun. It looks like it was invented by a parent who wanted to ensure their child gets some physical activity in front of the computer.

LibraryThing

Photo taken at Allan Gardens, 2009.

I love this LibraryThing! What a wonderful tool to catalogue my home library of gardening and landscape design books. I can now keep track of what I own and not buy any duplicates as well as keep track of what I want to read in the future.
My LibraryThing library can be found at: http://www.librarything.com/catalog/ursrula

Delicious Bookmarks

Sharing bookmarks would have come in handy when taking my courses. I can't think of how many times we would say to each other, "I just found this great website on ..... and I'll forward it to you." I certainly can see the potential especially when sharing resources or trying to locate that "favourite" or perfect and "delicious" website.

Snowshoeing at Scenic Caves

When snowshoeing to the top of the Look Out

Point in Scenic Caves, you are rewarded with this

beautiful view of Georgian Bay. I took this photo because

the cabin looks warm and inviting in contrast to the

cold and peaceful surroundings.

Wikis Wild Mushrooms

Wikis, what a wonderful and efficient tool to use when coordinating events! I'll certainly be using it in the future.
Endless possibilities.....

The Recipe Wiki is making me very hungry. This is a picture of some mushrooms I picked last fall. Can't wait until the fall to pick some more boletes. Next time I go on a foray, I'll think I'll make some soup........and perhaps I'll use a Wiki to coordinate the trip....mmmmmm.

RSS Feeds

I thought that there is no way I can find 10 feeds, but once I started, I realized that there was so much to choose from. RSS Feeds are a great tool to keep one current on information and new events, particulary on "breaking news". However, I can see how it can be overwhelming and I suspect that I will have to weed my selection down. It will be interesting to see what transpires the next few days.

Welcome To My Blog

Hi and welcome.

Guess where this is? If you look closely enough, you will see bananas. No, this is not the Caribbean. The photo was taken yesterday in Toronto. This is a great place to go when the temperature dips down REALLY low. Do you know where?
